NYC Gov. Technical Working Group (2016)

In 2014, NYC’s major Bill de Blasio committed to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 80% below 2005 levels by 2050 (80x50). Energy use in the city’s buildings account for 73% of citywide GHG emissions — making building energy performance a key priority in meeting the 80x50 and other interim commitments.

This Technical Working Group report highlights strategies NYC will pursue to meet its GHG reduction goals in the building sector. Page 71 is a case study of how Rudin Management Company’s integrated Nantum AI helped achieve significant GHG reductions. Through real-time data tracking, Nantum has equipped Rudin’s building operators to fine tune base-building heating and cooling equipment start times and automate system adjustments based on occupancy data. This has resulted in 28% GHG emissions reduction across Rudin’s portfolio since 2005.
