Using an Operating System to Unlock the Value of Building-Level Data for Energy Reduction

Prescriptive Data’s Chairman, John Gilbert, spoke at the Leir Research Institute Virtual Conference 2022 hosted by the New Jersey Institute of Technology, giving the keynote address before the PropTech for Energy and Environmental Management panel.

John spoke about the importance of needing smart software to synthesize and analyze raw data.

Collecting data is nice, but unless building operators use a single integrated platform like Nantum OS, the data can hardly be used. Taking smart computer science and combining it with operational engineering can have a powerful impact on reducing energy end-use and carbon emissions. Making data valuable requires creating a software layer of middleware on top of existing hardware, extracting that data, and overlaying machine learning algorithms. Not just collecting and storing data, but analyzing it in real-time in order to use it to make better predictive operation decisions. Nantum OS acts as a brain for the smart building.
