Carbon Zero Mindset: Landlord and Tenant Partnership

One of the biggest challenges to decarbonizing office space is a lack of landlord and tenant cooperation.

Tenants are responsible for the lion’s share of energy use in a building that produces emissions, yet building owners can’t exactly tell tenants how to save. Most owners are happy to continue pushing on energy costs to each tenant.

Building a better green lease framework enabling owners and occupiers to work together to cut emissions and share incentives is critical to decarbonization.

Some of New York’s largest officers owners and occupiers gathered at Bisnow’s recent Sustainability and ESG event to discuss how tenants and landlords can work towards decarbonization as partners.
